Lisa Patroni monochrome painting Mona Foma 2020

‘Image_Object’ at Mona Foma 2020

February 28, 2020 By LisaPatroni

In February one of my monochromes was included in 'Image_Object' - an exhibition that was part of Mona Foma in Tasmania. The show examined the relationship between the visual and the physical. My work 'Waiting' contributed to a key theme - an increasing emphasis in contemporary art on surface and texture. Waiting, 2019, oil on canvas, 30x30 …

Artist Statement for ‘Inbound’

February 1, 2020 By LisaPatroni

Work in the show began with the question - where does something begin and where does it end? Each piece was created through meditations on time and interspersed with everyday objects encountered through chance. Together they became a mix and match, a search for relationships, a game of assemblage - driven by the puzzle of 'thinking and doing' - until a creative answer presented itself. The work embodies the process of making itself. 'Inbound' was a group show at Bondi Pavilion (in February of …

Artist Statement for ‘Mostly Monochrome’

September 4, 2019 By LisaPatroni

In this body of work, I have been looking at different ideas about time and art history. ‘Where Ideas Begin’ (Installation at Bondi Pavilion with Oliver Wagner)

May 1, 2019 By LisaPatroni

"I think art and thinking are ways of tuning rather than imposing your concept or getting something to fit. It's like listening, like attunement. Something is already there and your task is to tune to it." ~ Timothy Morton In early 2019 I was not long out of graduating from my Master in Fine Art from the National Art School. At the time I was starting to develop new work. One of the things occupying my thinking was: where do ideas begin. Danish artist Olafur Eliasson describes this place as an …

Artist Statement for the National Art School MFA Grad Show

November 8, 2018 By LisaPatroni

This work explores the paradoxical nature of the monochrome - how the monochrome rejects subjectivity and simultaneously allows for subjectivity, embodies both the material and immaterial, and allows for multiple interpretations of both poetic and political aspects of everyday lived experience.  The central proposition of this project is that by exploring the boundaries of traditionally fixed binary oppositions, through the physicality of making, a new space for imaginative capacities can emerge. …
